Risk Register

Risk Management – Summary of the Council’s Approach to Risk Assessment and

Management of the Risk Register

Introduction:

The Parish Council maintains a limited Risk Register, (which is proportional to the size and scope of its operation).

The Risk Register is supported by additional, specific, 'risk assessments' as needed, for example regarding the Village Green and provisions for inclement weather.

Although limited in scope, the Council seeks to ensure the principles of good risk management are observed.

Note: the Council will not necessarily produce a new risk register (maintained as a separate document) each year: but it does review the register annually, usually at the Quarterly meeting of the parish council which coincides with the Annual meeting, held in May.

Any amendments/additions to the general principles and areas of risk identified within the risk register, will be shown below in an updated, document.

General Principles and Good Practice for Risk Management:

Step 1. Identify and characterise risks; differentiating between strategic and operational risks.

Step 2. Assess risks; identifying their Severity; a combination of Likelihood and Impact.

Step 3. Evaluate risks; assessing the ‘residual level of risk’ once the controls are in place; resulting in an assessment of ‘high’, ‘medium’ or ‘low’.

Step 4. Manage risks; deciding on what is the acceptable level of exposure to risk and identifying which is the best option:- Avoiding the risk, Reducing the negative effect of the risk, Accepting the risk, or Transferring the risk.

Step 5. Ongoing  Monitoring and Reporting Annually.

Current Risk Register

The Risk Register is maintained as a separate document – the latest version of which, (2024), can be found below.
